This Year's Study Book: Falling in Love with Close Reading: Lessons for Analyzing Texts – And Life (Co-authored with Kate Roberts)
Close reading can raise energy and inspire deep thinking--or it can be a tedious bore! It all depends on how we approach it. Spend an engaging and thought-provoking day with Christopher Lehman who will help you study a progression of close reading instruction, from early elementary up through the secondary level, which respects the needs and development of these various readers. You will study practical methods for teaching the skills of deep analytical reading in ways that enchant students and help them become independent with these skills. You will reflect on the practices you have already put in place as you study methods of facilitating thoughtful work with texts, media, and life, that make student learning visible and provide ongoing opportunities for authentic assessment in your instruction. You will learn structures that lead to independent close reading habits and refine a continuum of development across time, from early studies of objects and illustrations, up through developing foundational lenses to view texts, and finally to more sophisticated thinking. Author and coauthor of several popular books for teachers, this workshop will draw on research and classroom practice from Falling In Love With Close Reading: Lessons for Analyzing Texts – And Life, co-authored with Kate Roberts. His fun, witty, and interactive teaching style will leave you feeling confident to support students as they develop big ideas about narratives, nonfiction texts, and media. |
