Expectations and Coursework for Study Group for Ashland Credit 2015-2016:
  • Attend all four class sessions.
  • Read Close Reading and document your thoughts and reflections about Chris's ideas through a written journal, a blog, or any other media,
  • Develop a annotated bibliography of children's books, focused on the five topics that Chris discusses in Close Reading: text evidence, word choice, structure, point of view and argument, and reading across texts.  The number of books that you include in each of the categories will be determined by the number of titles you can find that you feel are quality model texts and are appropriate for your grade level and your students.  (It will make compilation of class project information more uniform if you use APA notation for your bibliography.  Example:  Lowry, L. (2010). Number the Stars. New York, NY: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children.  (Original work published 1989)
Your project is a place to begin to identify quality resources that will support and enhance the reading and writing instruction in your classroom.
