So What Do They Really Know?

The Literacy connection welcomes with pleasure Cris Tovani, author of So What Do They Really Know? (Stenhouse, 2011) I Read It, But I don’t Get It (Stenhouse, 2000), and other books.  Cris is a reading specialist, an accomplished teacher, a nationally known consultant, and a staff developer for the Denver-based Public Education and Business Coalition (PEBC.

The Literacy Connection Program will consist of two general sessions, at which snacks will be provided, and a day of demonstration teaching by Cris Tovani, followed by an all day general session which she will address.  One semester of Ashland University credit will be available for the completed course.  There will be two smaller geographic meetings between the first two general sessions for those taking the Ashland course

Those taking the course for credit must be present at the opening meeting to receive their free copies of Tovani’s book, must attend all sessions, and must complete a classroom project related to the book.  They will need to stay one half hour after the first class to receive details about the course.  Marlene Beierle, former Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator for Westerville Schools, and Carol Price, former Coordinator of Language Arts for Worthington Schools, (both adjunct professors of Ashland University) will be the instructors for the course.

The cost for those attending all four sessions will be $150.00.  There will be an additional charge for university credit, and the participants attending all four sessions and/or taking the course for credit will receive a copy of Cris Tovani’s book free of charge.
